5% VAT on Domestic Heat Pump Installations
The Government is committed to reducing the amount of harmful F gases which pollute our atmosphere and are a contributory factor responsible for global warming.
As part of its Climate Change Programme the Government is dealing with the consequences through an “adaptation” programme - for example modifying our buildings so they remain cool during the hotter summers that climate change will bring. Dealing with the causes of climate change is known as “mitigation”, for example modifying our buildings so they are energy efficient and emit less carbon. To encourage householders to consider making a contribution to lowering the emissions into our atmosphere a reduced VAT rate of 5% is applicable on qualifying energy efficient heating systems and renewable technologies.
Renewable Source Heating Systems
The reduced rate can apply when you install, maintain or repair renewable-source heating systems and solar technology.
What this means
The reduced rate only applies to the supply and installation of air source heat pumps and renewable technologies to buildings that are either:
- Residential accommodation, or
- Intended for use solely for a relevant charitable purpose
Qualifying Projects:
In addition to standard residential house or flats the following may also be eligible. Please note this list is not exhaustive.
- A home or other institution providing residential accommodation for children
- A home or other institution providing residential accommodation with personal care for persons in need of personal care Hospices
- Residential accommodation for students or school pupils
- Residential accommodation for the armed forces
- An institution which is the sole or main residence of at least 90% of its residents.
